- After struggling to make it as a singer/songwriter,
Steven tried his hand at stand-up comedy. In 1981 Steven was hired as a
“paid regular” and house emcee (compere) at the Comedy Store in LA. While
there he performed along the likes of Robin Williams, Richard Pryor, Eddie
Murphy, Sam Kinsion and Jim Carrey. After 5 years of fun but getting
nowhere, Steven went up on stage and announced to the audience he was
quitting showbiz forever. But when he made the announcement, he felt a huge
burden off his shoulders and he decided to come back and do another
“farewell performance”. Attaching the notion of getting high on laughter
and being addicted to performing, Steven finally had what one prominent
Hollywood agent once said he needed, “an act”!
-
- Steven placed 5th in the 1994 Seattle
International Comedy Competition, where the finals were held at the Seattle
Opera House.
-
- Steven has played clubs
and colleges throughout the US and Canada as well as in the UK where he
currently resides. (full list available upon request)
-
- Although bookended by
the “farewell performance” notion, Steven’s act is very light and funny. He
sings satirical songs, does mixed impressions, audience repartee as well as
jokes. (He is in fact known as one of the quickest…uh…wits around!)
-
- Steven is available for
bookings as a stand-up or an emcee (compere).
-
- Since first quitting in
1986, Steven has racked up well over 5,000 farewell performances, every one
his last. (at least that’s what he says)
