STEVEN ALAN GREEN

Award winning filmmaker, Hollywood writer, stand-up comedian, story-teller, actor and founder of The Laughter Foundation.

(Oh…and Uber Driver)

You want to know the number one reason I love doing standup comedy? I like making people happy. Because life has forced me to do the research. Research on how to stop your heart from breaking by laughing. Whatever this world continues to afford me, I will always know I accomplished this. I have devoted most of my life to that one pursuit. To make other people happy for just a short time and perhaps the takeaway they get is that it's actually possible to be victorious over sadness. That sadness is not the end. It's merely a bridge to the other side of darkness.

bio

Multi-award winning comedian and filmmaker Steven Alan Green is part of the original Comedy Store stable of comedians and writers.  New York born and Hollywood raised, Steven has written jokes for Jay Leno, Arsenio Hall, Roseanne Barr and Jimmy Walker.  His trademark “farewell performances only” stand-up act garnered him great attention on the London comedy scene throughout the Nineties.  His varied and versatile voice-over and on-camera commercial and film work in the UK includes repping such international media companies as Warner Bros., Comedy Central UK, and the BBC itself as a sidekick on Radio Scotland, which led to Steven hosting South Park Weekend for Comedy Central UK (then known as The Paramount Comedy Channel).

In 2000 Steven created and produced the first of 3 “High On Laughter” comedy galas which included guest star George Wendt, benefitting a drug and alcohol charity launched by Princess Diana.  The 3rd and last one took place at The London Palladium, featuring the best of American and British stand-up comedy (Including Zach Galifianakis, Bobcat Goldthwait, and Jim Gaffigan) and honoring comedy icon Jerry Lewis.  High On Laughter III was broadcast on Bravo UK. The unexpected international news making events of that evening led to his much lauded one-man show “I Eat People Like YOU for Breakfast!” followed by interest from Hollywood to develop his life-story into a movie.  Steven has appeared on Conan as an actor and hosted South Park Weekend on Paramount Comedy Channel in England.  Steven Alan Green was the voice of American television on the Paramount Comedy Channel in the UK, promoting Everybody Loves Raymond, South Park, and Trailer Park Boys.

In 2007 Steven wrote and directed the multi-award winning short “Little Things”, which he’s currently developing for a feature film. In 2009, Steven founded The Laughter Foundation, a 501 non-profit to help comedians with financial grants and offer therapy as an alternative to comedian suicide.

Steven jokingly refers to himself as a “comedy legend”, not because of his talent or accomplishments. He is using the term satirically in reference to his collective exploits on the international comedy scene, many of them rooted in folly and self-mockery.

Lakers owner Johnny Buss has recently come on board to try and help us help comedians and build The Comedy Museum. Disclosure: Just 3 meetings so far and we’re taking things a step at a time. After all, he’s got a new comedy club to run!

By the way, I told Johnny, “Don’t trade LeBron for Carrot Top! (he laughed)

Steven Alan Green possesses the kind of writing that reminds you of when better writers were in the fore. He has a twist to the twist of phrase, that is his own. “He exists on the very edge of “unlikable showbiz American”, like a cross between Danny De Vito and Sgt. Bilko, which makes him all the more entertaining to watch!” - Kate Copstick, The Scotsman, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival

SAG is a maven of comedy. He makes stream of consciousness look easy. He makes belligerence fun. He makes taking comedy seriously lighthearted. He makes me laugh.” -- Beth Lapides; creator and producer of Uncabaret (and Sex Goddess, IMHO)
